The simple things in life.
With three children some time's it is hard to keep the all happy at the same time, so my boy's went out with there day for the day yesterday, and i spent some mummy daughter time indoors with my little girl. She two and love's most things so at her age it's easy to keep her occupied. Whilst the boy's went off on there own adventure, it gave me and my daughter sometime to have our own fun!
First thing on the list was cake making: Our first time making cakes together so i opted for something easy and brought the ready boxed cake mix, my daughters choices where the good dinosaur and of course peppa pig, she is a massive peppa fan! after assembling all the extra ingredients and utensils my daughter had a little dance in the front room, like you do!
All i can say is she had so much fun cracking the eggs and mixing all the mixture together, the little look on her face was priceless she must have felt so big doing it all, i let her have as much freedom as possible! Once the mix was CAREFULLY i use that term loosely lol put in to the cake cases we popped then in the oven, where she sat in front watching her little cakes rise, she was so excited to add the little pictures to the top.
Being a parent is not always about spending money to make your children happy, they enjoy the time you spend with them, and it makes me feel better as a parent, giving each of them the quality time they deserve, some friends will pay a fortune showing them with new toys and days out to keep there children happy, but not everyone can do that, so the little things can be just as good as long as you put the time and effort in.
Once our cakes had baked and cooled, it was time to ice them! the best and messy part, again i gave her the freedom of being in control the kitchen looked a bit of a mess after but what's fun with out mess! with our music on and little comments from my daughter " Let's do this" our cakes where finished! the smile on her faces was priceless just seeing how content and happy she was melted my heart, and it cost nothing as i always stock up on cake mixes, then we did the whole process again for our dinosaur cakes which was as much fun as it was first time round!
My daughter was rather upset that we had made all the cakes and she could no longer lick the spoon, and stir everything together so i put my thinking cap on and decided to make rice crispy cakes, with all the extra Easter eggs we had so while she had some chill time eating her bowl of fruit i melted the chocolate ready for our next batch, once it was ready i called her over, and that little twinkle entered her eyes again "we make breakfast cakes mummy?" the excitement in her voice was indescribable, after showing her how to do it she was in full swing mixing the cereal in to the melted chocolate! a few ended up in her mouth instead of the cake cases but the best bakers always have a little try first right? So that was batch three complete and in the fridge to set.
Our next challenge was painting, i love letting children be children and getting mucky and feeling free, so out came the paints and paper, and away she went. I encouraged her to dip her fingers in the paint as well while asking what it felt like, she was not to sure "Mummy you put fingers in to?" and i did as asked, i then pressed her hand in to the paint which she found rather funny "I'm all messy now" i don't think she was so keen on that as she asked me to clean her up pretty fast.
My whole reason for writing this blog post is to show parents that fun and happiness does not have to cost money, paint can be picked up cheaply enough from local super markets and craft shops, cake mixes as well, the joy and happiness it brought to my daughter said it all she didn't stop talking about it for the rest of the day, and she was so proud to she her brothers what she had achieved while they was out. I will post a few little pictures of our fun together, which i hope you like, she can be a little poser for sure so the simple things really do count!
I hope you have enjoyed a simple yet fun blog post, and if you have children give it ago it really is fun for everyone!
Thank you for taking a look
